TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE:
Resources for You
Partnerships for Parks' Technical Assistance program provides capacity-building support for community groups working in their neighborhood parks through workshops, written materials, consultations, publications, and small grants. We identify and assess the needs, skills, and resources of community-based parks groups; research, develop, and deliver resources to meet those needs; document and evaluate the effectiveness of our efforts and those of groups we work with; and share lessons learned with parks groups and peer organizations.
Materials
Our online library of materials is based on organizational development techniques and the successes and experiences of New York City park stewards. You can download and print tip sheets and accompanying worksheets on topics including becoming a 501(c)(3), working with elected officials, and developing fundraising skills. For groups wishing to learn more about a particular subject, we offer workshops corresponding to each of the tip sheets' topics.
Workshops & Customized Trainings
Want to learn to write a grant, care for young street trees, or expand your park group's membership? We offer workshops, trainings, and structured follow-up support based on the topics in our online library of materials, bringing groups together to learn from resource speakers and from each other in an informal setting. In addition to offering workshops in all five boroughs, we provide coaching in organizational and leadership development, group strategy and meeting planning, and facilitate meetings and mediate disputes.
Grants
Partnerships for Parks' Capacity Fund provides grants from $250 to $5,000 to help community-based groups and organizations grow their ability to care for their park. Our Capacity Fund guidelines and application are available online. We have also compiled a list of grant opportunities that meet parks groups needs, supporting everything from bulbs and tools to environmental advocacy.
Outreach Publications
Interested in having materials to promote your park or parks group? The Technical Assistance program can work with your group to produce high-quality, original publications that build involvement and promote neighborhood parks throughout the city, and we can help you fund your publication through a grant from the Capacity Fund. View our recent publications to see what other parks groups have designed, and to find out more about creating outreach materials for your park!
