VAN CORTLAND OUTDOORS- SPRING 2005 TEACHER WORKSHOP SERIES
The Friends of Van Cortlandt Park are excited to be offering another teacher workshop series this spring. These workshops are designed to train teachers in using the park as an outdoor lab where lessons come alive for students. They will demonstrate how teachers can use the 1,146 acres of parkland as an outdoor classroom and how you can bring the park inside.

It's Spring at the Red Hook Community Farm!
Come out and join Added Value at our first two community workdays, to celebrate the coming of spring and prepare the garden to grow a bounty of produce! Your help made a great difference last year, we'd love to see you again.

This season, regular community workdays will be held on the first Saturday of each month, starting in April. Additional workdays will be announced on an ongoing basis, and please contact us if you are interested in coming out to help at another time. Bring friends, family and neighbors - many hands make light work!

To canoe through a tranquil salt marsh or camp out under the stars, to navigate a path through snow-covered woods or learn to identify New York City's diverse birds, call 311 and ask for the Urban Park Rangers. Their free weekend activities, designed for naturalists of all ages, are operated out of Parks & Recreation's nature centers, which are located in every borough and open all year. Volunteer Projects in the Bronx Coordinated by Wave Hill
Plant, prune, clear, fortify! Learn about urban woodland rehabilitation while helping out in Wave Hill's Herbert and Hyonja Abrons Woodland, neighboring Riverdale Park, and other sites in the Bronx. City Parks Foundation's Puppets, Children's Theater and Readings in the Parks

Urban Divers/NY Harbor Estuary Monitor Project
If you have a fondness for water and an urge to learn about the city's hidden estuaries you can become an Urban Divers waterway steward. You'll go on weekly outings to collect water-quality samples; monitor fish traps; conduct environmental surveys; organize eco-cruises; or supervise youth education programs and events. With Urban Divers, which works with communities along the NY/NJ Harbor Estuary, you can get involved in projects on the Gowanus Canal, Newtown Creek, Coney Island Creek, Bushwick Inlet and Harlem River. The 104th Precinct Youth Council Roller Hockey League, Mafera Park, Queens
